If you want to pick up onlythe dot files, then use .[a-zA-Z]* $ echo .[a-zA-Z]* .AbiSuite .adobe .alias .amaya .amazonmp3 .asoundrc .aspell.en.prepl I have a bazillion dot files in my home dir.
