From what I can tell it is the least stringent as far as special characters, directory depth, and filename length. If the files you want to backup can't be written with --iso-level4, then you're pretty much out of luck and need to pursue a different backup method. The point of this utility is to pack as many files as possible on to each disk and back them up so that each file can be accessed without any additional software. In your case, you may need to use a utility that will create an archive. In that case you would specify on the command line (or if the GUI allows) a maximum size before splitting the archive. Then you would burn a single file to each disc.
