This only helps if the printer understands Postscript, and has a
fairly fast Postscript interpreter.

A raw printer queue is also handy on a shared printer. A remote
computer can send a print job already formatted for the printer.
This can be handy when you have a program that produces HPPL or PCL
output, and the printer understands it. You avoid translation
between formats.
