Compare and contrast....

$ touch foo
$ ln -s foo bar
$ ls -lL *
-rw-rw----. 1 mitch mitch 0 Jun 19 23:48 bar
-rw-rw----. 1 mitch mitch 0 Jun 19 23:48 foo
$ ls -l *
-rwxrwxrwx. 1 mitch mitch 3 Jun 19 23:49 bar -> foo
-rw-rw----. 1 mitch mitch 0 Jun 19 23:48 foo
