Given that the 6710b comes in two versions, a 1280x800 version and a
1650x1050 version, it tells me that the monitor probing thinks that
your laptop is only capable of 1280x800.

Are you absolutely sure that you have the 6710b version that supports
1650x1050 resolutions?
