    Yes, and this is essentially what I did except I tar'd the entire
    /home/bobg/ directory into one big lump. My question was could I go in
    and unzip individual files. It seems that can't be done easily. So I
    can unzip the whole thing and take what I need from the resulting
    files. I have sufficient storage space for that. I put the tar file on
    the NFS server where I can get to it as long as NFS works on a new
    install. If not I have another computer I can move files to and shift
    them around. I don't think I can "paint myself into a corner?" I
    usually do though!
