That was when I was using the Linux For Non-Geeks 2 CD set.

That loader is "Freespire".  The error message says:
"[0.0000001 ACPI:BIOS Age (1997) fail cutoff (2000) force is required
to enable APCI"

Blue loading line oscillates and red hard drive light stays on
continuously after that.
