I've seen systems that won't work, at all, with a live disc, but work fine with a normal install. Someone using the live disc as their first trial is going to give up. And I've seen plenty of others where a live disc works horribly on a system (tediously slow, minutes and minutes to boot, around a minute to get an application to start up, etc.), yet a normal install works fine.
