I have changed nothing and my output is
[mike@home1 ~]$ ls -l /dev/dvd*
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 3 2010-03-19 19:05 /dev/dvd -> sr0
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 3 2010-03-19 19:05 /dev/dvdrw -> sr0

So maybe yours is a special case?

Undoubtedly. The question is: how did this special case occur?
