Takes the Heads * Sectors * Cylinders / 2 to get true size. Many manufactures use GB to be 1,000,000,000 bytes instead of a true GB. The machine I am using at the moment gives these numbers. 255 Heads * 63 Sectors * 19452 cylinders = 312496380 total sectors Divide by 2 to get 1K units, and it is 156248190KB Divide by 1024 to get 1M units, and it is 152586.12MB Divide by 1024 to get 1G units, and it is 149.01GB. But the Drive is called a 160GB disk? Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB, 160000000000 bytes Thus there is a difference of about 11GB of size. If you did a disk image from a drive with different settings, you might need to use a partitioning tool to reset the options.
