For both email clients the Junk Settings are what ever the defaults are. When I checked after your response, thunderbird had "adaptive junk controls" turned on for all accounts, however I couldn't find out how to setup the junk controls in Kmail. I know the information I am providing above is not exhaustive at all, but I am completely clueless when it comes to dealing with email.
