I've run into a had a couple of issues when doing an upgrade. Tired a preupgrade, and it failed when boot didn't have enough space. Cleared out all old kernels, and then it worked thru the complete install, but it was doing final step, and said this will take some time, and the screen went blank and no keyboard activity. Forced reboot, and it would boot from the old Fedora 11 kernel, but trying the upgrade kernel resulted in a message that old root not found. Had to restore boot and root partitions.. Second attempt using the netinstall cd and the DVD image via FTP from my server resulted in a full upgrade, but did have to try 4 times before it gave me the upgrade options. Not sure why the first three boots went to replace linux.. This went all the way thru, and got to the final screen that it was finished, and it was reboot time. Reboot resulted in monitor coming up with an out-of-freq message. Brought the machine up in single user mode, and check the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, and it was the same one from the Fedora 11 to use vesa. Renamed it, and rebooted, and the machine came up using no xorg.conf. So, not sure if the new setup doesn't support xorg.conf at all. Tried using system-config-display, and it created a xorg.conf, but reboot had same problem. This is an old nvidia 32MB card, and vesa worked better than nv with Fedora 11. Last issue so far is tha the VNC failed to load due to library issues. Seems program uses the libssl.so.8 but the Fedora 12 has libssl.so.10 which links to libssl.so.1.0.0. Also, libcrypto.so.8 used by program, and Fedora 12 has libcrypto.so, libcrypto.so.10, and libcrypto.so.1.0.0 I was able to just create symbolic links from the current names to the version used the the vncserver, and then it would work like before. The timing worked well, so I shared this with a few of my classes, since my lab has both Windows XP and Linux, and now have the one machine with the Fedora 12 now...
