HAL was written and developed by David Zeuthen at Red Hat. Because he
has written a more modular replacement for it called DeviceKit and
Fedora has already started moving away from HAL a release before. HAL
would still be in the release for backward compatibility with several
other software within and outside the repository that hasn't moved to
DeviceKit yet but major components in Fedora have already moved to
DeviceKit a release before. Ubuntu is following on that lead and so
would other distributions.
