apoligies that grub.org does not have full documentation in their grub manual.
i pulled it for other reasons and never read all of it.

this is a part of my multi boot of /boot/grub/grub.conf on /dev/sda1;

note that each 'kernel' line ends with 'vga=794'. on a 19" crt, this gives me
a screen size of 52 rows x 120 columns, which makes for easy watching of boot
and shutdown progress. [ '\' added to for email line break. ]
