That's been my experience, too. On my Fedora 11 & Gnome system, I
issued the command:

sudo yum downgrade udev libvolume_id libudev0

and restarted the system. Now when I insert a music CD, I get a dialog
asking me what to do, and Rhythmbox recognizes the CD and plays it.
Sound Juicer, otoh, still doesn't see the disc in the drive.
