If you run avidemux with the command pasuspender -- avidemux pulseaudio will be disabled until avidemux exits, so avidemux will access the ALSA driver. Even if it is not exactly what you asked, it could be useful as a workaround. You also probably gain a better video/audio sync, which is good if you are editing video stuff.
