There are community repos, sure, but their quality is not certain. A
badly made rpm/dpkg can mess up your system, so you really shouldn't use
repositories you're not sure about.

Planet CCRMA doesn't seem to contain much extra software. It does,
however, contain packages that replace the ones in Fedora, so it's
possible it will break your system.

I've used RPMFusion repositories for a long time (Livna before rpmfusion
came around) without any problems, since its policy is to not overlap
with Fedora itself.

Different linux distributions don't necessarily have the same package
set. For example the packages you mentioned, vim-latexsuite and pondus
are not in Fedora at the moment, but they can be included if someone
packages them.

I began work on the pondus package and will submit it for review
shortly.
