The hard drive I'd be using to boot from (/dev/sda) has been reformatted by several aborted attempts to boot using 'linux askmethod'. Right now I'm trying to copy the DVD image into .../os/images/ using the <Ctrl><Alt>F2 console. I'm hoping anaconda will recognize and mount it, allowing me to hit "Retry" and proceed.
