Should have mentioned that this window has a progress bar that moves
rapidly back and forth.  This continues to happen, forever, so the GUI
isn't hung, it just isn't doing anything else, apparently.  Using top on
VT2 shows Xorg using almost all the CPU, and when going back to VT1, the
GUI isn't restored, just a black screen with a cursor in the upper left.
