i am new to fedora.so please correct me if i have said something
incorrect.

After going through the thread, i noticed the version of fedora the op
is running ,there are quite a bit of modules mentioned in
/etc/modprobe.conf. But i have run fedora 10 and fedora 11 and in both
cases the /etc/modprobe.conf file is empty. but my lan card and sound
functions perfectly with the exception of removing pulseaudio. Now i
used to remember when i was running fedora 7 or fedora 8 the modules for
the lan card and soundcard were mentioned in /etc/modprobe.conf.so i
think /etc/modprobe.conf may be obsolete in fedora now.

now the shot in the dark- if the OP runs the fedora 11 and removes
pulseaudio, the sound may work as it will contain the latest stable
alsa.
