Thanks - I am glad I am not the only one who is confused!  maybe someone
closer to the changes will be able to suggest how to get the previous
behaviour back in F11.  

As you say the files in /etc need symlinking to /var/named/chroot/... but I
don't know how this plays with selinux - maybe they are linked in a
different way to previous versions?

All I want is to have a standard bind-chroot setup and then make a small
change to named.conf (in the chroot). On another machine I also want my own
zone files for the local LAN. I know there was a discussion around November
2008 in devel-list concerning "unbound" but I don't know what the outcome
was for the final set of changes, or whether this impacted on bind-chroot
directly. But for sure something seems quite different in F11 compared to
F10.
