That is what I did with my first install. Unfortunately I was (and still
am to a large degree) a complete newbie when it comes to Linux. (I am
much more familiar with OpenBSD.) Since I did not realize I needed to
create 2 partitions (system,boot) before installing, I created only 1
partition and now, I can not use the preupgrade option. What you
describe is what I have been planning to do if I don't come up with a
more attractive alternative.
