I have tried to install Fedora 10 on my system and get white screen
My system,
ATI 4870X2
Intel Core i7
6 Gig DDR3 1600
Dual 750 Gig WD Black Drives
(1) Blu Ray
(2) DVDRW
850 Watt Corsair
I have been trying for about a month now to get any Linux with the NON Free ATI Drivers installed. I want to try out the current KDE 4.2 and to get all the goodies you need 3D enabled of course.
My question is how to get Fedora installed and once installed will the 3 D drivers install?

I got fedora 11 in easy, i am glad you said something about it. I am playing
around with it now, I needed 64 bit so I could put all my ram to work. It
says it is a preveiw, will I have to reinstall later or can I just upgrade
when the final version comes out. I swear last Q&A and thanks again.

Hi,
On my work Fedora 10 desktop (upgraded directly from F8) pulseaudio
doesn't run and I don't know how to fix it. On my home Fedora 10
desktop (upgraded to F9 then F10) pulseaudio runs OK. As a workaround
I have run "chmod o+rw /dev/snd/*" to allow Audacious audio player as
non-root user access to ALSA kernel audio devices to be able to play
music. Help troubleshooting pulseaudio appreciated.

on my system, it's in /usr/sbin/lsof. i'm guessing you don't have
/usr/sbin as part of your regular search path. a good way to track
down a command is, if the command also happens to come with the
package of the same name, then list the files in the package:
$ rpm -ql lsof
/usr/sbin/lsof
...

i could also have pointed out that, since the original poster
claimed that the man page existed, then the package was almost
certainly installed and it was nothing more than a search path issue.

No. If you install the preview, your repos should be pointing to
Rawhide. At some point during the preview, they will change and point
to the new F11 repos. When F11 becomes released, you will no longer be
on rawhide, but on F11. At, least, that's the way I understand it will
work. My F8 machine has started to run pre-upgrade, and is waiting for
its next reboot to join the F11 party (I just have to wait until it is
convenient for me).

Have you tried using a boot.iso image to do a network install? There
were a lot of bugs addressed in anaconda-11.5.0.48-1 (-2 is now available)
since the preview image.

Our experience here with x86_64 Fedora 10 linux and
the radeon drivers on a couple machines with Radeon X1650 Pro
cards has been very uneven. One of the boxes is very fragile
to spontaneous reboots when running the free drivers and
using UCSF Chimera to work with MD trajectories. The other
box still has a habit of blanking the screen for minutes
at time despite having the nomodeset flag passed to the
kernel. I am afraid things will only get worse under Fedora 11.
So far, testing on a MacBook Pro with X1600 graphics, I find
that pymol still renders outside of its windows. While I
appreciate the aims of these changes to X11 and the free
drivers, the problem is that Fedora has become destablized.
It is really exposing the limitations of a monolithic kernel
when the graphics drivers keep taking down the entire box.
Jack
ps We run a large amount of OpenGL software (free and
commercial) and have found the non-free drivers to be
more compatible in general. Hopefully this will improve
over time.
