Multiple versions of the kernel can be installed at once. Each kernel needs its own build of any given kernel module, so you have to have multiple versions of the module as well (but they aren't technically multiple versions of the same package because the package name for the kernel module contains the kernel version - at one point, Fedora used a scheme which didn't do that, but once kernel modules were no longer allowed within Fedora, RPM Fusion took over and they decided to switch back to including the kernel version in the module package name, and having the unversioned module be a metapackage which always drags in the latest version of the module; the advantage of doing things like that is that yum does not have to treat kernel modules specially anymore).
