I have already checked /etc/sysconfig/kernel. It has: # UPDATEDEFAULT specifies if new-kernel-pkg should make # new kernels the default UPDATEDEFAULT=yes # DEFAULTKERNEL specifies the default kernel package type DEFAULTKERNEL=kernel If this file is supposed to control the behaviour I want, it would appear to be set up correctly (I have never changed it). I noticed that grub.conf default=1 started to happen about 1 month ago, or so.
