If you use the G4U hard drive cloning utility (which is not a Fedora
package), you might have a problem -- it depends on whether the right
driver is included in the kernel that G4U boots. But generally, G4U
works most of the time.

I agree. Additionally, PCB designs are unfriendly with respect to how
the actual hard drives might be secured. Having a PCB hang off a hard
drive's connector can cause you problems. Also, having an IDE cable hang
off the PCB can stress the SATA part of the connection.
