Mine takes quite some time finding my dlink DIR-300 access point (around twenty seconds), and a little bit longer logging on (around ten to fifteen seconds), it's not the same each time (sometimes it takes ages, sometimes even requiring restarting NetworkManager, but I suspect that's down to NetworkManager or the wireless interface not waking up well after the laptop was suspended). It finds the neighbours, much weaker signal strength, access points almost immediately (some encrypted, some open). I don't know what brands they have, I've never asked them.
