firmware loading after bootup, possible?

Greetings;

I have a pcHDTV-3000 tv card, capable of rx'ing analog signals when they can
be found, but now we have made the switch to 8-vsb digital for most of the
local channels. leaving only 5 in the analog mode yet, by request from Our
senator.

There are 2 files in the /lib/firmware directory for this card which I assume
put it in the digital mode for the correct signal std:

dvb-fe-or51132-qam.fw, not of use unless I feed it a cable signal.
dvb-fe-or51132-vsb.fw, which seems to be the correct one.

I see the last one being loaded in the dmesg output if the reboot has been a
powerdown reboot, but not 100% of the time for a hot reboot.

I have mythtv trying to receive data from the card, but it appears to be
treating the data as analog noise. I may be using the wrong device as
mythtv's input, but there doesn't seem to be a right device.

I know the card can work, I had it working with kaffiene a couple of weeks
ago, but that program is far from everyday usability yet. Lockups are like
cracks in new cement, the question is not if it will crack/lockup, but when.

So in my quest to shoot some trouble, I am wondering if there is a way to
force the reloading of this firmware into this card short of a powerdown
reboot, which I consider playing russian roulette with hard drive life?
