In this case, it would be a matter of adding the USB ID for the
device into the drivers alias table. But there is a way to do that
as part of the modprobe line - I just can not remember it. That way,
I can see if the driver will really support the device before trying
to get it added.

Unfortunately, further research shows that it isn't going to work.
(It was already tried.) Another case of the hardware changing
without the model number changing. I should have done my research
better.
