rpm rebuild

Hello,

It is the second time that it happens. After a regular update of fedora 10, the machine does not restart. This time I get: /sbin/dmsetup: relocation error: version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference /lib/libdevmapper.so.1.02 symbol version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time referenceversion GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

The / directory is mounted properly but the /usr, etc which are lvm
partitions cannot be mounted because an error appears when I try
to mount them manually.

I though that it was a problem due to the update, but jus after the update
I add to rebuild the database.
So, I reboot the machine an another partition (also fedora 10). From their
I check the database of the installation which fails and it gave me an
error. So I tried to rebuild the database of the failing system.
Before I mounted the failing installation on /mnt/linux
Then, I tried:
rpm --rebuilddb --dbpath /mnt/linux/var/lib/rpm --root /mnt/linux
but I get an error:
D: opening db environment /mnt/linux/mnt/linux/var/lib/rpm/Packages cdb:mpool:joinenv
error: db4 error(22) from dbenv->open: Invalid argument
D: opening db index /mnt/linux/mnt/linux/var/lib/rpm/Packages create mode=0x42
error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - Invalid argument (22)

It looks like that the root directory is not taken properly, so I did:
rpm --rebuilddb --dbpath /mnt/linux/var/lib/rpm
but it looks like that the dababase which is rebuil is the one on the
running system, because when I make a query, the paths are the local paths.
So, how can I rebuild the database of a system not running ?
Then, how can I reinstalled the old packages on the failing system ?

Thank for your help.

Regards.
