Usually these games don't interact well with pulseaudio.
For Quake Wars to make it work I had to use this,
$ /path/to/game/binary +set s_alsa_pcm plughw:0 +set s_numberOfSpeakers2

Maybe you can try something similar. The game forums should be able to
help you better in this.
