I think Stan saw through my post, I was trying to give a funny example
about the problem.  Picking on ipsum lorem should have shown that a lot
of unnecessary text around the bit that needs reading doesn't help.

Just quote enough for your reply to be understood.  A prior message can
be looked at if someone needs to look at logs and configuration files,
particularly if your reply isn't actually doing anything with them.  You
didn't provide any changes to *them*, so there's little point in quoting
them complete.

Of late, it's getting painful to read the mail on here, when people are
full-quoting massive emails and adding two-liners to the bottom, or
burying them in the middle and not even spacing them apart from the
quoted text, so you can't see where they've responded.
