OK, I tried this. The general sluggishness of KDE has improved greatly,
but Ktorrent itself is still hogging the cpu.

I've also tried running Ktorrent under Gnome, with exactly the same
results.

I now also have a less functional desktop, but I'd better post
separately about that as it has nothing to do with Ktorrent.
