It seems to me that the easiest way to find out what you want would be to
monitor the CPU load using top or the Gnome System Monitor panel applet.  Shake
your window then and see if the CPU use shoots up.  If it does, then you have
your answer.  If it doesn't then you also have your answer.

With XGL composit'ing was done by the X server, with Compiz it is done by the graphics card. There, does that answer your question?!
