you could try running the PAE kernel. 

edit /etc/sysconfig/kernel  and change prefered to kernel-PAE
then "yum install kernel-PAE"  that might be enough to give you access to all 
4 gb since it seems to not be a hardware limitation but a 32 bit os 
limitation.
