In my case I have a monitor that doesn't do EDID (at least not correctly)
and even though the driver knows there is a monitor attached, it ignores
it; resulting in output defaulting to the port where there isn't a monitor
attached. I have a one line patch I apply every update to force it to see
that monitor.
