I didn't it on a Qube 2. You may follow:

There are several initiatives to use a modern Gentoo on that hardware. I
even read about a project which used a sata controller to drive 1 gb
disks and achieved a nice, low power consumption file server / NAS.
Unfortunately I don't remember the link  :-) But it may encourage you to
engage Google.
