possible you have wrong power supply polarity? tho i would doubt.

therefore, unplug from usb connector, connect power supply.

reason: rt 8187 is an amplifier. as an amplifier, it is amplifying rf
signal and does not use usb for rf signal, only for power.

if it does not work in this configuration, i would check power supply
to see if it has any voltage.

tho this does cause to wonder.

because of weirdness you are finding, i would contact realtek.

8187 fails in product search. they do list for support;
