When Linux boots it can run in a number of different modes. These
determine which processes are started automatically, whether the network
is connected etc. The important ones are modes 3 and 5. In mode 3, you
get a working system but with a basic text-based interface (white
letters on a black screen, and no graphics). In mode 5 you get the whole
enchilada. Usually mode 5 is the default, but you can start up in mode 3
by rebooting and watching for the Fedora splash screen (where it tells
you the exact version of kernel you are about to boot). At this point,
hit 'a' on the keyboard and type '3', followed by Carriage Return.

You should eventually get a black screen saying "Login:". You can now go
into the root account and try to update your system: "yum update",
followed by a reboot. On the reboot, just let it run normally and see
what happens. If it's still broken, you may need to get back to mode 3
(see above) and install some other packages. I'm not an Nvidia expert
but this may involve including an extra package repository such as Livna
and updating again. Others on this list will have a better idea.

One possibility, to get to at least a basic level of graphic
funcionality, is simply to remove the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf (or save
it somewhere) and reboot. This may or may not work in your case, but it
won't break your system.
