yum is currently at 3.2.16 (on Fedora 9). You might try doing "yum clean
all" and trying again.

FC5 is really old and AFAIK the repos are no longer maintained, so I
don't expect "yum update" will do anything unless you haven't updated
your system in a *really* long time.
