CentOS 5.1 has 2.6.18-53.1.21 as the most recent update. RHEL (and thus also CentOS) usually gets support for newer hardware backported in the point releases. So 5.1 already supports newer hardware than a stock 2.6.18 kernel did, and 5.2 (which will be out in a few days, see http://misterd77.blogspot.com/2008/06/centos-52-release-update.html - the corresponding RHEL has already been out for a few weeks) will support even more new hardware (see http://www.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5.2/html/Release_Notes/RELEASE-NOTES-U2-x86-en.html ).
