Really? Why does it print

   "No package thunderbird available."

then? (Well, at least on Fedora 9 Yum reports if a package is installed
already and whether it's the latest version.)

These two repoview pages show that Thunderbird is included with
Fedora 8

http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/releases/8/Everything/i386/os/repoview/thunderbird.html

and Fedora 9:
