Hi,
I have a MS Word file from several years ago that I want to look at.
Are you sure it is Word and not Write or Works?
Todd: I see you got a workaround, however, I would be interested to know
what the following thinks the file type is ?
$ file myunknownfile"
This relies on content not file extension.
for i in *wri *.doc ;do file $i;done
mod10_99.wri: Microsoft Word Document
mod10_99.doc: Microsoft Office Document
the .wri is from MSWin 3 or 3.11's write program.
the .doc is from MS Word circa word95.
the .doc opens fine in OOo, but the .wri causes an older[1] OOo to ask If I
want to convert an ascii document and a newer[2] OOo to die. The ascii to OOo
conversion almost holds some of the formatting. Unfortunately I am not sure
if I want to put the info out on the net for others to see... it was a VERY
tailored resume.
[1] with OOo openoffice.org-core-2.0.1.1-7.1
[2] openoffice.org-core-2.3.0-6.14.fc8, drops an
soffice.bin: xcb_io.c:452: _XRead: Assertion `dpy->xcb->reply_data != 0'
failed./usr/lib/openoffice.org/program/soffice: line 147: 8459 Aborted
"$sd_prog/$sd_binary" "$@"
