Try doing a 'yum clean all' and then try the yum update and
groupinstall again. It couldn't hurt.
I was getting similar weirdness on updating my system when I had some
yum cruft left over from F8 in the yum cache after an upgrade.
I know this is a fresh install in your case but the LiveCD image might
have had something in the cache that was causing yum to try to install
im-chooser-0.99.6-3.fc8.i386 or something.

Just a thought.
