this is a very good ups. but, as you say, only as good as how it is used. ;o)

but only as good as how you use and maintain it. not your error, but if you
have it set up for your environment.

apc recognizes linux, but they unfortunately do not fully support it. they
could do better.

your gel cell can go 2 years with out being changed, but i recommend that you
not go more than a year with out changing. more often if you have a lot power
outages.

run test and even unplug mains cable from time to time just to make sure that
your computer knows what happened and tells you.

even as good as apc is, they do have one failing. they used mov for spike
suppression. at least so it was last time i looked at circuit board.

for what may be best protection against spikes, have a look at;

	http://www.transtector.com

it will change you way of thinking about how well mov does not protect.
