Robert,

One of the best sources of information regarding these cards and their use in Linux is probably the MythTV mailing list and of course the website.

i'm thinking about wandering out today and picking up a USB TV
tuner to play with (no experience with those yet), and a friend
suggested a combination of the hauppauge WinTV-HVR 950 and the
xawtv app.

any thoughts on that? reasons to avoid that particular combo?
alternative recommendations? thanks.

My two cents is that speaking from experience, Win-anything_new
plug-n-play can be a problem. Someone always has to develop a
driver.

well, in a few minutes of googling, i've found enough to convince me
that it's doable and that others have done it, so i'm going to start
piecing together the info and see if i can come up with a coherent
recipe. but if anyone's already gone thru this and has the
instructions, that would be cool.

to recap, i now own a hauppauge wintv-hvr 950 hybrid tv stick, and
wanted to see how well i could pull in local (OTA) HDTV signals and
play them. i've already had xawtv recommended to me as the viewing
app, and i'm guessing i have to download and build the latest module
based on what i read here:

anyone who wants to jump in with more guidance, go wild.
