Network Problems after recent upgrades - 2.6.24 kernel?

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

I'm running the x86_64 version of F8 on a dual AMD Opteron box. I regularly run yum update to keep everything up to date. On March 9 I ran the update to get the most recent kernel (kernel-2.6.24.3-12.fc8.x86_64), but I didn't reboot to actually start using the latest kernel.

I ran yum update again on March 13. After this update, I rebooted and tried to use the new kernel. I lost my network connections. I have two network connections. One is a built-in Broadcom BCM5703C Gb Ethernet adapter on a Tyan K8W-S2885 MB and the other is a Gb PCI card.

lspci output...
02:07.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8169 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 10) 02:09.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5703X Gigabit Ethernet (rev 02)

If I boot the prior kernel (2.6.23.15-137.fc8.x86_64) the PCI Realtex adapter came back, but not the on board Broadcom adapter. I noticed the ifcfg-eth0 and ifcfg-eth1 files in /etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default were modified on the reboot date (March 13). I found ifcfg-eth*.bak files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts. I backed up the files in /etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default and copied the *.bak files, but this didn't work.

Can someone suggest what to do next?

Did the kernel update change these files?

TIA,
Pete
