I think this falls in the category "2.6.24.3-12.fc8 kernel has issues"
and I'd suggest that you file a bug in Bugzilla, and to get your
system working, roll back to 2.6.23.15-137.fc8.

There has been some various issues reported with the 2.6.24.3-12.fc8
kernel, as has been debated quite a lot today on the -devel list.
