Has anyone noticed an inability to burn cd's when running F8? I recently

i
tried another cd burner and got the same result. The error stating that
there was an error while recording. However the home machine still reads
the
cd's but just will not complete the burn process without throwing an
error.
It isn't much to go on and i thought it rather minor until I rolled into
work and found my f8 station not even giving me an error but not
recognizing
the blank cd in the drive ( i tried several blanks). It worked yesterday
when i burned an F9 Alpha which subsequently spun right up and installed
on
an old dell. Today after the most recent update it fails to recognize any
cd's blank or not. Is this some general issue felt all around or did
somebody give me the evil eye?

I have been using F8 for a while and have no problems burning DVDs, CDs,
or with sound.

Could you post a copy of /sbin/lspci and give us a better idea of what you
have for a chipset?

My F8 box at work is now functioning again. Something had stopped hal daemon, presumably the update but i can't be sure. My box at home however is suffering from something else. The sound first failed about ten days ago but I have not had a lot of time to feel the lack or do anything about it. As a result I am just now trying to get to the bottom of it. I am not sure if my two problems are related because I can't exactly remember the last time I burned a disc at home. I just know when i tried a couple of days ago it failed with the following error :

 Error writing to disc
There was an error writing to the disc.
The recorder could not be accessed

I right clicked selected Write to Disc , selected either writable drive and click on write and <insert error here>
I use Gnome Desktop , in case we're not taking that for granted.

The rest of this email is devoted to the requests for lspci and dmesg. I threw lsmod in to just cause. There is alot of output below so keep on scrolling.

Dmesg was also asked for and here goes ( There is one line towards the end that says " cdrom:this disk doesn't have any tracks i recognize!" Also at the very end some I/O errors. The floppy i recognize fd0, sr1 is the dvd burner(i think) maybe it is a hardware problem but i tried another burner and got the same results. It's possible that both burners are cooked i suppose. I was going to pull them and shove them into my f9 alpha box but that has its own issues now and i don't think this is the list for it.)
