Get one of those socket testers to see if the polarity of the plug wasn't compromised during the re-wire job. That's all it would take to really screw things up. Those testers will also check your ground. A refrigerator plugged into an ass-backwards socket will spike just about everything in the house and they tend to run a lot of the time. Some electricians are no better than professional wire-strippers. A socket tester is always a good thing to have in your kitchen hardware drawer.
